Good Times Around the Corner

I am happy today. Why, might you ask?

Because the Frankenstein-Manbride household (Gigi Frankenstein & Manfred Manbride) have found a location to which we will be relocating! Well, in four months we'll be relocating.

Finding a house has been a massive source of stress for both myself and Manny. It's not so easy in these parts to find a good house in a decent neighborhood for a decent price. Oh, and we're not buying, we're renting. Anyway, so I found something that sounded like a good lead in the classifieds yesterday. I called the owner, went to see the house on my lunch break, and I instantly knew that this was it. The house is perfect. It has all the room and storage we so desperately lack in our current shithole apartment. It comes with all the appliances we need and it has a nice, fenced-in back yard for the girls to play in. It's in a very nice, safe, quiet neighborhood where we could actually walk down the sidewalk without fear. And all for an affordable price! We knew we had to claim it - quick. We met with the landlady (who is a very kind, benevolent woman) later in the evening and signed the lease. But we still have four more months until we can move, so we're waiting... patiently...

So now the next Big Thing To Plan For is the wedding and all the things that come along with it. We've decided to get married on Friday, the 13th of October. Yes, Friday the 13th. It will be a very small, close ceremony. Then we're having the reception the next day. The whole thing will be generally non-traditional, because we're generally non-traditional people. We're chosing all the music ourselves, because DJs are vile. Manny and I are both compiling our lists. Here's what I have so far:

Lament – Miles Davis
The Promise – When In Rome
You on My Mind in My Sleep – Richard Ashcroft
Somebody – Depeche Mode
Forever – covered by Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips (by the Beach Boys)
Your Sweet Voice – covered by Milton Mapes (by Matthew Sweet)
Charlotte Mitnacht (from Amelie) – Devotchka
When The Sun Hits – Slowdive
I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do – ABBA
Just Like Heaven – the Cure
Hey – the Pixies
Common People - Pulp
‘40’ – U2
Ceremony – Joy Division/New Order
True Faith - New Order
Run Wild – New Order
Anybody have anymore good suggestions?

I don't see either of the best songs ever to dance to whilst tipsy: Personal Jesus or Sledgehammer.
What are you thinking?!?

Those are mostly the slow songs for the wedding bit. Also making an appearance will be:
Song of the Siren by This Mortal Coil
Friend of the Night by Mogwai
Drive-In Saturday by Bowie
Bizarre Love Triangle by New Order
• a song or two by Scott Walker
• And a whole host of '80s new wave and '90s brit-pop.

And I'm thinking of having a half-hour of nothing but the worst songs to play at a wedding-related event, just 'cos I want to. Suggestions?

Oooh, good move, Manny Boy! Yes, everything you mentioned will be played. I'd like to have more than just a couple songs by Scott Walker.

Yes, someone please suggest to us very awful songs to play at a wedding.

Awful as in horribly inappropriate for a wedding or awful as in traditionally played at weddings?

Awful as in horribly inappropriate, like "Girls Girls Girls" by Motley Crue.

Arrested Development: Mr Wendel

How about Lust for Life by Iggy Pop? Although it has Carnival Cruise overtones now as opposed to a hookers and heroin vibe.

Awh, the Promise!

My husband and I danced to 'You Belong to Me' by Jo Stafford. Bob Dylan did a cover of it on the Natural Born Killers soundtrack.
